This female Poodle came from a painful past. She was used as a puppy machine and kept in a cage for most of her life, until she was finally surrendered to an organisation that specialises in rescuing and rehoming dogs like her.
Before finding her forever home, she was fostered in a space shared with other temporary furry guests.
She showed reluctance to be near people — behaviour that likely reflected both traumatic and frightening experiences, as well as a general lack of exposure to the world.
When her current owner adopted her at the age of eight, she displayed an almost entirely passive personality, consistently avoiding human contact.
She was extremely fearful of people, though — fortunately — not of other dogs, likely because she had always been more familiar with the company of fellow canines than with humans.
Encouraging owners and other human friends to slow down, acknowledge their dog’s discomfort, and adjust their own behaviour to offer genuine support is never easy but, when it happens, it brings real hope. The dog begins to sense a new possibility and gradually starts to open up.
This was one of those special cases.
