A dog like this is hard to miss on a walk. Tall and slender, with a long, tapered snout, this type of Greyhound carries an unmistakable elegance.
When I first met him, he was a two-year-old ‘big boy’ struggling with emotional regulation. What looked like a lack of control was actually rooted in past negative experiences with other dogs.
Whenever a strange dog walked too close, he would snap and lunge forward, trying to push the other away as forcefully as possible. He had developed a state of constant alertness that we might liken to human anxiety — triggered every time another dog came near, regardless of size or sex.
The change in this furry friend is still ongoing.
In the meantime, keeping his difficulties in mind is the best thing his human family can do — offering support, understanding, and an environment he can truly perceive as safe.
With time and well-managed experiences, he can begin to rewire his beliefs and gradually become a more relaxed and confident dog.
